line of site: 2020

“Line of Sight: 2020” is a six panel continuation of a series of mixed-media paintings I completed last year for an exhibition titled “Line of Sight” in Natchitoches, Louisiana. This new series of paintings is largely an expression of the complexity of rebirth. I believe that through the power of our humanity, each of us can overcome obstacles, transcend our circumstances, and find our personal heavens. After reflecting on recent changes in my private life, I felt that it was important to demarcate this time as one of great importance. This show serves as my diary, and my personal reminder of my progress.

I used acrylic paint, combined with small found objects, ephemera ranging from fifty years to over one hundred years old, gold leafing, and more to create each piece. Featured throughout are several small albino sparrows. Common birds like sparrows are all around us, and happily ascribe some positive meaning to that. I envision them as little disguised protectors, or heralds of the heavens we each dream of for ourselves. They lead us into the paths we must journey and assure us of our value, our strength, and our potential along the way. They represent friends, family, and the silent supporters we never see directly.

Please enjoy the works and photographs below.
